Via my sister, here are my top picks (I’ve also added a category).
Western – “Tombstone”, baby! Loves me some Kurt Russell!
Horror – Can I pick “Shaun of the Dead” since it’s technically a zombie movie? I mean, it’s a comedy, but it’s ZOMBIES so I’m putting it in this category since if I’m on a desert island I really don’t want to see something that will scare the crap outta me.
Sci-Fi – “Galaxy Quest” Yes, I know. Another comedy. But it takes place in SPACE, so it counts in my book. By Grapthar’s Hammer you know I’m right!
Musical – Ooooohhhhh….this one was TOUGH because my top two movies of all time are BOTH musicals. In the end I had to go with the #1 movie of all time in my book: “West Side Story” But “My Fair Lady” was a CLOSECLOSE second.
Comedy – This one was the toughest category out of all of them. Because there are a lot of funny movies out there. In the end I went with “Groundhog Day” because I could watch that over and over again and still laugh every time.
War – “The Patriot”. Please – it’s Mel Gibson AND Heath Ledger in the same movie! I’m THERE!
Action – “Speed”
Foreign – “Lagaan” – Bollywood at it’s finest.
Classic (before 1960) – “The Philadelphia Story” starring Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant.
Documentary – The “Long Way Round” miniseries with Ewan McGregor and his buddy Charlie Boorman taking a motorcycle trip around the world.
And I’m adding a category:
Fantasy: “Lord of the Rings” trilogy
Bonus Pick (any genre) – “Never Been Kissed” with Drew Barrymore and My Main Man Michael Vartan – see below under ‘Romance’.
New bonus pick: My Fair Lady. YAY! JAYNEE WINS!!
Edited to add more categories that I found online:
Animation: The Prince of Egypt
Romance: Never Been Kissed with Drew Barrymore and My Main Man Michael Vartan
TV show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Seasons 1-7
Ah, Galaxy Quest is a fine choice.
It was hard to narrow down to one movie for some of those categories.
And you’re not the only one to choose Shaun of the Dean for Horror.
