Denis and I had a fun night out last night – it was our first real evening away from the kids since we moved down here, and it was nice to enjoy each other’s company without having to hear “mom. mom. MOM. MOM!” while we’re attempting to eat dinner.
We went to Fox & Hound Grille for dinner, which was good. It was a true pub (loud music, big bar, etc.) but the food was delicious. Our waitress was new and VERY slow – I had intended on having one of their desserts (S’mores!) but she took so long clearing our table once we were done with our main meal that we barely had time to pay the bill and walk back over to the theater.
The theater is an old church and seats only about 700 people or so. We were in the third row, center, which was awesome. The play itself was very short – barely over an hour. But for a one-man show I’d hardly expect him to do the full version of “MacBeth”. This super-revised version was funny and the guy’s imitations of the Simpsons was spot on (his Marge was amazingly accurate. When the show was over he also did a cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody” featuring the 12 most annoying singers of all time (his parody included Bob Dylan, Aaron Neville, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Axl Rose and others).
We were home by 9:30 p.m. so it was still an early night (compared with when we had to go to NYC to see plays – we’d be home by midnight if we were lucky). Looking at their list of upcoming productions I have a feeling that we’ll be taking advantage of the cheaper NC prices and will start going to a lot more plays than we did in NYC.
Looking forward to our next ticketholder night: Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood on November 16.
You’ve been prolifically blogging while I’ve been wedding-ing and honeymooning…it’s gonna take me a while to catch up. Tee-hee. 🙂
I sure hope this guy tours and visits Colorado, ’cause MacHomer sounds so funny!!
