Small World Getting Smaller

A few months ago when we were still in NoNJ and I was packing up old scrapbooks, I flipped through one in particular from my high school and college years. In there I saw a postcard from a guy named Read that I was acquaintances with after meeting him at a Young Life camp in North Carolina (he lived in another state but after high school he took a long trip to Europe and would send me postcards from various countries).

After seeing the postcard, I did a search and found Read’s blog online which had his email address. I emailed him at that time but the email bounced back. I knew from his blog he was in the process of moving back to the US with his family (they were living abroad), so I chalked it up to no computer connection. Last week I saw that he had updated his blog with his new US address so I emailed him another note. And this time he wrote back!

And here’s the crazy part – it turns out that Read and his family lived in Jersey City, NJ from 1997-2005 before moving abroad. Just 20 short minutes from us in Bloomfield.

But not only that – his sister and her family lives in Fort Mill! HOW CRAZY IS THAT? He recommended that I contact her and I told him to give her my email address and we could see about possibly meeting up sometime. Apparently she has kids, including a couple that are close to CootieGirl and CootieBoy in age, which would be GREAT. And what’s also cool is that Read’s sister homeschools her kids – which is awesome since I had thought about doing that with my kids someday if the need arose.
