Saying Goodbye – Or Is It See You Later?

Yesterday was our last day at church – it was bittersweet for several reasons. First off, our lead guitarist didn’t bother to show up, which kind of hurt my feelings. He’s like a little brother to me and I was sad that he didn’t come, knowing that it was our last Sunday to play in the band together. Because of his unexpected absence, our multimedia guy had to sit in on guitar, and since he only knows a handful of the songs we had to completely switch the lineup for the service. And because he was sitting in on lead guitar we had to snag two guys who had never done multimedia and ask them to do that. Fortunately Pastor Chris was really easy-going about it all and didn’t seem to mind that the band was a total mess on stage. *lol* At one point Chris (the lead guitarist, not the pastor) totally started playing the WRONG NOTES. I mean, it was trainwreck city. I just started laughing in the middle of the song and stopped it so that we could start again. I knew it was just better to start over than to try and get back on the track. Fortunately Chris did an EXCELLENT job the second time around and shows that he won’t let mistakes fluster him.

After the service Pastor Chris had us come down front to pray for us, and one of the men of the church got up and said a few words – he is a very sweet man and will be missed. His hugs and smiles on Sunday mornings were always appreciated and his joy of life was very affirming. All in all it was a nice Sunday, despite a few missteps and some disappointments.

Then yesterday we realized our next door neighbors are leaving on vacation today and won’t be back in time to say goodbye. So we popped in with the kids last night for a few minutes. They are AWESOME neighbors and as I said last night – I hope we have neighbors even HALF as good as they have been to us these past five years.
