I think I’m in the minority from the reviews I’ve seen online, but I LOVED last night’s AI5 finale. I fully expected to zoom through 90% of the big American Idol finale last night. But I found myself watching at least 90% of it instead! I zoomed through a lot of the cheesy medleys that the cast was forced to make us suffer through. And I saved myself money because now I don’t have to go see the concert (not that I would, but you know what I’m sayin’).
My impressions from last night:
Now, let’s talk about Gaiken for a minute. I know it was all fake that the wannabe was “shocked” when Clay came out, but it was well played nonetheless. But let’s talk about Clay. The hair. Was that his way of coming out of the closet without actually saying anything out loud? Cuz the hair was SUPER gay. Besides that, I have to say I was giddy as a school girl when he came onto the stage. I admit that when Clay left the stage I turned to Denis and said, “He better come back again because that wouldn’t be fair that Carrie gets two songs while Clay only gets half of one.” And that’s when I realized: I think I’m one step away from being a Claymate. :eyepop:
But I guess I should also talk about Taylor, who came away the winner. He was the obvious choice. I checked out dialidol.com yesterday and saw that in THEIR weekly results he came in first EVERY SINGLE WEEK since the Top 24. So obviously he has a huge fanbase. I heard his actual recorded radio single this morning on the way to work and he really DOES sound a lot like Michael McDonald. I hope he has a lot of success and he must be so thrilled that he doesn’t have to play in dive bars anymore.
I saw a clip of the Gaiken fan thing this morning and I don’t think that was staged. I think that dude was completely shocked to see Clay on the stage. And I have to agree about the hair.
Yeah, my first thought about Clay’s hair was, what’s up with that? I really didn’t recognize him. My impression about the established singers was that the four finalists (and perhaps even more) idols sang rings around Meatloaf, Prince, Mary K., Tony B., and Dionne W. I’ll bet Simon was thinking the same thing. They wouldn’t have passed muster to get into the final 24 in an Idol competition in my judgment.
No, the hair was NOT gay. No self-respecting gay man I know would have that :censored:awful hair.
Covais should be singing “Happy Birthday” at four-year-olds’ birthday parties, not that. A world of ew.
I was hoping for a shot of Prince and Ryan together to see who was shorter.
FREE ELLIOTT!
Jen, the reason I think the Gaiken thing was staged (and trust me, I watched it on slo-mo about half a dozen times in order to see if I was right). Wannabe says he’ll sing, and just as the curtain behind him opens to show Gaiken, Wannabe looks FAR FAR to his right – far enough that he easily could have seen Gaiken in his peripheral vision. And yet he kvetches to the increased applause as if to say, “They like me! They really like me!”
Now, he knows he’s on the show because of the Wannabe factor, and he knows Clay is going to be on the show and hadn’t appeared yet up to that point. He HAD to have seen Gaiken out of the corner of his eye. Was the reaction REAL? Sure – he’s a HUGE Gaiken fan. But I’m CONVINCED that Wannabe had to have known that Gaiken would come out even if was just at the END of Wannabe’s song to shake hands. Because Gaiken is just that nice.
Clay can’t be gay! I won’t allow it! I don’t like the hair or the caps. yuck
I don’t want Clay to be gay either! Please! :lh:
Clay is gay and that guy didn’t know Clay was behind him. Nuff said.
