Movie: Just Like Heaven

Whereas “Godsend” was disappointing, “Just Like Heaven” was the complete opposite. I loved this movie. Partly because Reese Witherspoon is one of my favorite actresses, and partly because I happen to adore Mark Ruffalo. Ruffalo plays David, a man haunted by his wife’s death who moves into a sublet apartment to try to escape for a while – only to find that the apartment is haunted as well, by the former tenant, Elizabeth.

It’s a sparkly fun romantic comedy and I found myself smiling through the whole thing. I’ve loved Reese since I saw her in the modern retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood”, Freeway, back in 1996. The movie itself is very twisted (but then, aren’t most Oliver Stone-related movies?) but her performance is absolutely amazing.

I knew going into “Heaven” that I would like it, based on that alone. You can’t help but like her. But I was pleased that the movie was actually well-written and enjoyable despite being a total fluff movie. I laughed several times and just had a good time.
