Let me start by saying that Owen Wilson NEEDS to get a nose job. Seriously. In “Wedding Crashers” it was so distracting that I can’t help but think seeing this movie on the big screen would have made it even worse.
That being said, the movie was just north of okay. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I won’t be buying it on DVD anytime soon. Denis and I agree that Vince Vaughn has built a really nice career out of playing the exact same character in every movie he makes. He’s very Jack Nicholson in that regard. I can only think of two movies where he shook it up a bit: The Locusts and Clay Pigeons.
Anyway, once the movie got into the actual story it was a fun little movie, thought not appropriate for younger audiences at all. I just think it was a bit overhyped when it was initially released. Possibly, as Denis said last night, because there aren’t a lot of these kinds of comedies anymore, so people kind of latch on to the one or two per year that come out (a la 40 Year Old Virgin).
2 1/2 Visine drops out of five.
his nose actually frightens me. it’s so scary.
