So we have a lot of things we have to do to the house in order to get it ready for our eventual sale. Denis and I came up with a list of about 50-60 items that we wanted to get done – most are small items, and other are bigger more costly items. We figure if we spread everything out over time the cost wouldn’t seem that overwhelming.
Over the past couple of weeks Denis has managed to cross out a lot of small items that we wanted done. We have spackle marks on a lot of walls throughout the house as he has covered up various nail holes, cracks, stains and other unseemly markings on the walls. Our goal is to eventually paint those areas/rooms to make them as fresh as possible.
I have caulked all of the cracked tile surfaces in my bathroom and Denis caulked around our kitchen sink, which badly needed doing. He’ll eventually do the bathtub in his bath as well.
Yesterday Denis reattached the toekick under some of our kitchen counters. It fell off a few months ago and we just never got around to regluing it.
The highlight yesterday was coming home to find the awful awning removed from our front door entry. I hated that thing – it was barely hanging on by a couple small nails and was hanging crooked to boot. I was so pleased to see it removed and sitting in our side yard waiting to be dumped in a dumpster.
Denis also had some guys come over yesterday to look into fixing our back deck in preparation for restaining and sealing it. A couple of the posts were rotted through and need to be replaced, and hopefully that’ll get done by the weekend so that next week Denis can take advantage of the warming weather to restain and seal it before the spring rainy season begins.
Lastly, the interior glass on my skylight in my bathroom has been cracked/broken since we moved into the house, and I finally put in a call last week about getting it replaced. After taking measurements for the skylight rep, he said that he’ll have the piece on stock next week to ship out and in the meantime he’s sending me the instructions by mail so that we can decide if we want to DIY or have him come out and do it. It’s $70 for the glass alone or $175 for the glass and installation. I’ll let Denis decide whether he feels comfortable about installing it once we get the instructions for his review.
Add in cleaning up the yards and cleaning out the garage and we’re getting a lot accomplished. I’m hoping we can have a roofer come out and fix a patch on our roof – that’s the most important fix right now since the spring rains are coming on quick. That’s the kind of fix that should be done sooner rather than later.
The patch on the roof is the gutter fix, right?
No, I thought we were bringing in someone to fix the roof where the attic leak happened last fall…
No, that was an isolated, one time thing that was estimated to cost us nearly $2k. This is the visible gutter that is hanging off of our roof, which will only cost us a hundred or two to fix.
Wow, ya’ll have gotten a lot done! Good job!:w00t:
