Can you do that? I mean you can do whatever you want but is that not defeating the purpose of Lent? I’m not the most religious guy on the face of the earth but if you give something up aren’t you supposed to give it up 100%? So am I understanding you right… you are giving up sweets at work, but when you get home you can have as much as you want, and vice versa with the Juice. :eyebrow:

I would think it’s all right to give up one thing for work and another for home. Lent is not just about giving something up (although I admit that most years that’s all I do). In my own instance this year, by giving up sweets at work I’ll be saving approximately $2 a day – at the end of 40 days that’s $80 that I will have “saved” that can then by given to my church, or to a charity. So my giving up something can in the end give to someone else.

Lent is a time of reflection on God’s grace in our lives and what He has done for us by sending His Son to die for us. So during Lent, each time I think of those sweets at work or that juice at home, it’s a quick moment to reflect on God’s blessings.

So no, I’m not giving them up “full-time”, but I believe I’m still firmly engaged in participating in Lent.

Also, I’m not Catholic, so theoretically I don’t even have to participate in Lent. But I do it anyway because I think it’s a good thing to do.

Good for you, Jaynee. But the REAL sacrifice would be chocolate, like you did last year. Since giving up potato chips the last few years, I no longer feel it is a great sacrifice since I don’t stock them in the pantry any more, so this year it’s the M&Ms that are in the cabinet. From Christmas on, those little devils come in all sorts of lovely colors, calling me to indulge in their loveliness. No gonna do it.

Marmie, trust me – I’m sacrificing. I have a brownie every day with lunch at 1 p.m. and then usually something like M&Ms or Twizzlers or a KitKat in the late afternoon around 4 p.m. My body is used to it at this point and it’ll be REALLY hard not to have those two snacks each workday. But as I said, I’ll be saving $2 a day which I can then donate to a charity at the end of the 40 days.
