Movie: Alfie

Last night I watched the remake of “Alfie” starring Jude Law. I never saw the original, so I can’t comment on that, but this movie left me scratching my head. I hated the ending, which was kind of a non-ending, really.

Jude Law is an interesting actor. He’s brilliant at playing the charming ne’er-do-well and just as good at the tortured romantic. He’s also very good at being incredibly good looking in one scene and haggard in the next without any obvious makeup do accomplish it.

As for the movie itself, it’s an okay rental if you want a movie in which a hot man speaks to you through the camera. Easily 75% of the dialogue from Jude is spoken directly to the audience (in one deleted scene he even asks everyone to enjoy their popcorn while he takes a shower).

It’s a tale of a man who loves women, and the woman love him. But when one gets pregnant and he falls for another he realizes there is more to life than avoiding commitment. At least, that’s the general description on the Netflix envelope. A host of women guest-starred in this movie, including Susan Sarandon and Jane Krakowski.

Did I like the movie? Sure. Did I not like it? Yep.
