This book was pretty bad. I’m not one for regency bodice-rippers, and this book shows the reason why. This is a group of novellas about how gossip can interfere with romance. But these short stories just weren’t that good. Of all four, only one was mildly interesting and “Austen-esque” – the one called Miss Jenny Alt’s First Kiss. A ridiculous title, for sure, but a decent story nonetheless. The problem with novellas is that everything has to happen very quickly. In a normal romance of about 250 pages, the romance has time to grow in a more natural fashion. In the first three books these characters claimed love within 24 hours. Just stupid.
Do I believe in love at first sight? Sure – but not love and marriage within two weeks.
These stories make me remember why I don’t read those kinds of books. Just….bad.
