Last night Denis and I watched the first night of the Westminster Dog Show. At some point Denis recalled seeing a dog show a few weeks ago and really liking one dog in particular. He couldn’t remember anything about it though – not the size, coloring, group, breed, etc. So we were watching when he suddenly said, “That’s it! That’s the dog I want!”
That dog was the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (left). About the same size as our current dog (15-18″ high, 35-40 pounds), this dog is all muscle, whereas Cooper is lean.
From what I read this morning, the SBT loves kids, which is a plus. He also has a slightly menancing look, which would be good to have on hand if intruders are casing the joint. The dog is generally a softie towards people, though it’s been known to be a bit overbearing towards unfamiliar animals. It has a healthy bark and isn’t afraid to use it. In either case, we’ve decided that once we get down to SC and into the house we’re building, we’ll get a SBT puppy to add to our household. Cooper would love the company, I’m sure, and the cats will already be freaked over the new house, so it’s the perfect time to add a puppy to the mix.
I’m more partial to the dog on the right, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, which has a very similar look to Cooper, although shaggier and shorter. Such a cute looking dog.
That PBGV does look like Cooper’s little brother. So cute.
You want to add a dog and then maybe a baby? :eyepop:
The first dog sure does look and sound a lot like a PITT BULL. (NO THANKS)
The second dog is so CUTE! I love the coloring.
Ace, the SBT is in the same terrier family as the Pitbull, but a properly bred dog of this type is not dangerous. The keys for these particular dogs: 1) Get it from a reputable breeder and 2) Train it from puppyhood to behave properly.
Besides, you know any dog of ours is just going to be a big mush who loves laying on the couch and sleeping on our feet.
