Steam Cleaning and Anti-Alien Solar Building

This morning I tackled some carpet steam cleaning and did the kids’ room and the upstairs hallway. Boy howdy were those carpets dirty. Just gross. Makes a good case for not having carpeting in the new house. Also makes a case for not having four cats and a dog, but that’s another topic altogether, isn’t it?

This afternoon I’ll tackle our room and the attic, both of which are probably even worse than the kids’ room.

I ordered a book a few days ago from Amazon all about passive solar home design and am pleased that I’ve obviously learned a lot online already. A lot of the passive solar techniques described in the book are already things I’ve implemented in our current floorplan. And it confirmed some basic structural things that I want for the house (2×6 construction with a foil external layer (to keep out the aliens) covered with spray foam insulation, for one). The other book I ordered will be going back – it’s all about active solar construction, which we’ve opted NOT to go with since it is too cost-prohibitive for building in SC.

Instead of not having animals and kids, we can just clean more often like we are supposed to do. LOL
