There is NOTHING worse than spending a lot of money on something only to find a typo in the finished product. It’s even worse when your detail-oriented boss expects you to catch said typos.
Our new header for the booth we use at conferences arrived. Mr. Sutherland walked by and made a joke about typos. A few minutes later I looked at the header (which I had displayed in the hallway to show Mr. Russell when his meeting ends), and FOUND A TYPO. It’s the kind of typo that could easily be overlooked (it wasn’t misspelled – the word was single instead of plural), and I did miss it.
When I was proofing the three headers tiles we ordered, I did catch one glaring typo, but totally missed this one. And since it’s a backlit header it’s not like I can just print out the missing letter and tape it up there.
I quickly put the banner away and called the design service that made it. I lamented to our rep about my error, and he verified that my original text DID contain the missing letter and that it should have been on there. But that’s what client PROOFING is for, so I’m wholly to blame.
These things cost a LOT of money, but I’m hoping the rep will help me out and do the second one at a discount – he sounded like he would.
:thud:
Update at 3:34 p.m.: I got a call a few minutes ago from my vendor who said that he felt the mistake was on THEIR part and that I wouldn’t have to pay for the new header. I’m off the hook! I told Mr. Sutherland (who was there when I discovered the typo) and he laughed and said, “You dodged a bullet and I have no bribery material anymore!” My bad day has turned into a great day.
That’s great news, sweetie. Hope you get to work from home some days. That would be great! Glad you can post to Cootiehog as well. That should make the day go by a little faster. Sounds like you’re busy too.
That’s AWESOME, Jane!! You definitely made the right move in taking this job!

Ugh – this sucks …
But on a brighter note, I am happy for you. The telecommuting things sounds right up your ally.
Let me k now if they have any other jobs going, see if you can put my name up for something, anything really at this point….
Are you sure you want to commute to NJ from Queens, MB? Wait til the wedding is over and then consider where you might want to live and THEN look for a new job…if mine works out here I’d have no problem recommending you to work in my office! I’d love to have you AND Ace here – how fabulous would THAT be?
