Mr. Russell came over a while ago and asked me to begin typing up a self-assessment for my performance review to take place in the next few days. I’ve now been here five months and I think I’ve exceeded expectations for the most part. I typed up the self-assessment, which was weird. I think it’s strange to brag about my abilities or accomplishments, even if it’s all true. Weirder still is typing up Mr. Russell’s self-assessment in which he does his own bragging. It’s almost like resume writing – except more desperate.
I also began filling in my performance review template so that all Mr. Russell has to do is mark “Far Exceeds Expectations” (or “Exceeds Expectations” if the case may be (which I think it is for goofy stuff like travel, expense reporting and maintaining his calendar – that doesn’t take much skill, frankly)).
We’re waiting to hear how much vacation time Mr. Russell has left for the year – that will determine when he leaves for his Christmas vacation and, more importantly, when my review will take place.
