No, it wasn’t a holiday from work for me, thus resulting in no posting. It was a “sit at the front desk the entire day” day for me – a completely ridiculous backup plan for when the receptionist is unexpectedly out of the office. At my old company, all of the backup admins would divide the day into even shifts, and the system largely worked very well. Apparently The Company had that plan in effect for a while but then a couple admins complained that it was “beneath” them, and so the new system was implemented. I think that’s ridiculous, but it didn’t stop me from being forced to be a “team player” and cover the desk all day. Mr. Russell wasn’t happy either, and complained and got the CAO of the company to change the rules so that from now on one admin will cover the morning and another admin will cover the afternoon. But I still had to do the whole day today.
I mentioned last week about my impending review, which took place on Friday. Mr. Russell confirmed that he (and the other honchos) definitely feel that I’m exceeding expectations but that since I’ve only been with The Company for two months he feels obligated to mark me as “meets expectations”. Denis and Ace feel that I should fight for “exceeds expectations”, but at this point I kind of agree with Mr. Russell – I could still be in the “honeymoon stage” where all is golden – better for them to mark me as “exceeds expectations” once I’ve been here for five months instead of two. Mr. Russell also took a bullet for me of sorts, blaming my downtime on himself. I totally thought he’d say “You need to be more proactive” but instead he said, “I know you give me things to work on and then have to wait on me to go through it before you can move forward, thus causing you to have downtime – I’ll try to be better about that.” Obviously I kept silent on that one.
