My commute last night and this morning was a dream compared to all of last week! Yesterday I spoke with a co-worker that also lives in Bloomfield and got the basic directions to get home using his route. He volunteered to caravan, but since he leaves at 4 p.m. and I leave at 5:15 p.m. I knew that wasn’t possible. But I consulted some maps online and figured I’d give a shot.
It was a decent commute home last night. It took about 50 minutes and would have been shorter had half a dozen cops not been holding up a car at gunpoint and requiring all passengers to get out of the car with their hands behind their heads. That slowed down traffic but it never came to a full stop like the traffic on GSP does. Plus, bonus: no tolls!
So this morning I got in my car and sat in my driveway until I heard the 8:01 a.m. traffic report. They didn’t mention any problems on Rte 80-W, so I headed out on the new route. What a wonderful commute. Constant flow, no backups, no accidents, and the slowest part of my route was the exit to get to the street on which the office sits. The exit ends with a stop light, so I had to wait four light cycles to get through because of the merged traffic sitting at the light. But I still managed to park my car in the lot by 8:42 a.m. – a 41 minute commute. And since it had no tolls I saved $1.40 between last night’s commute and this morning’s.
No more GSP for me unless I hear a traffic report stating that Rte 80 is jammed. :cheer:
That’s great. I’m loving my 40-45 minute commute too. Last night I-66 was jammed and I was o-so happy not to have to deal with that mess.
:w00t:
I would love to know the exact route you are taking. Rt. 80 is North on the GSP and the way you used to go was South on the GSP.
Ace, I have two options to get to my office. I can go SOUTH on GSP then WEST on 78. Or I can go WEST on 80 then SOUTH on 287. Then the opposite going home – 78E to GSP-North or 287N to 80E. The actual distance is longer on the 80 route, but the time seems to be quicker and there are no tolls. That could be part of the reason – no tolls means no required slowdowns.
