So you know how this is my last week, and how Thursday is my last day and I plan on leaving at around 2 p.m. to go and begin enjoying my long weekend before I start my new job?
Well first there’s the fact that tonight and/or Wednesday I’ll have to stay late to do software testing for two admin candidates – most likely not getting out of here until 7 p.m. since most candidates take FOREVER on the test that I give.
Then there’s the fact that two bankers just came to me with a new corporate brochure that they want done FINAL before I leave on Thursday. You know, as a swan song (said one particularly smarmy banker). And a deadline of this Thursday makes absolutely sense since the last brochure only took TWO WEEKS to make final before it went to the printer.
I was really nasty when I took the draft from the bankers. I don’t feel guilty about that. I just think it’s ridiculous to throw tons of work at me just because you fear it won’t get done once I leave. In my opinion, this is the perfect opportunity to have the person taking over this task learn how to do it while I’m here as opposed to three months from now when a new brochure comes along and I’m not around to advise her or answer questions.
Don’t worry about getting the work done. There’s always more work to do behind that. The only work you are responsible for is the work you can get finished by Thursday. The next person who comes on to work after you will have a head start on getting busy. I don’t believe you’ll be getting a small bonus at the end of the year for all the work you’re doing this week or for the first half of the year, are you? Then, don’t worry about it, sweetie. Do what you can and tell them Fay will have to do it in your absence. LOL
Working for the man stinks….just remember that you only have a couple of more days. And maybe sneak in a couple of unfortunate typos or so.
You go Jaynee, do what you can, the best you can, and go out with your head held high. They will appreciate you more knowing that you are the only one who could have done the job well, but oh no now she’s gone,:beerchug:
