Thisclose to a Vacation

Last night Denis and I were thisclose to book a week in New Orleans in May. We got some brochure in the mail and the offer they had was outstanding – 2-for-1 3-night cruise with FREE roundtrip airfare and $300 off any outside cabin on the ship and 4 nights FREE at any hotel and vouchers for THREE activities in NOLA (tours, museums, aquariums – stuff like that)and THREE vouchers for dinners at fancy restaurants (including Emeril’s, Anaud’s and other nice places). It just seemed like a phenomenal deal.

I called them to verify some information, and the woman said that the offer was for EITHER free airfare OR $300 any cabin. I said, “That’s not what your brochure says – in three places it says you get both.”

She put me on hold for about five minutes then came back and said that yes, both were available at once but only on trips through June. We found a date we liked (pre-Memorial Day week) and wanted go to through the specs again.

“Okay,” I said, “It’s a 2-for-1 cruise, then 4 free nights in a hotel. We get $300 off any outside cabin on the cruise AND free airfare to and from New Orleans. Plus we get vouchers for events and food.” In my head I calculated a week’s vacation for two for well under $2000.

The woman paused, then said, “No, the 2-for-1 cruise is not available if you do the hotel package. The 2-for-1 cruise is for the cruise ONLY. If you do the other things then you have to pay for two full cruise tickets.”

Suddenly the vacation was well over $4000.

“Oooohhhh,” I replied. “I knew there had to be a catch. Okay – no thanks!”

To think we were SOCLOSE to taking off for NOLA.

Scams scams scams! I hate that crap! Last year “Disneyworld” was in my hometown during our 4th of July festival and tons of people signed up to win a trip. My whole family got calls from this “outfit” and it was such a joke. As soon as you questioned ANYTHING they’d hang up on you! What’s the saying…”If it’s too good to be true…” I hate scammers!!
