I wanted this movie to be great – I really did. However, it was pretty average and thus I was disappointed. This is the tale of a man who is bored with life and has no direction, and just for kicks he ties a bunch of helium balloons to his deckchair until he can float in air. Well, the trick takes a turn when he’s launched high up and proceeds to float away and eventually lands in a quaint small town that he immediately feels comfortable in.
Toss in a love interest (Miranda Otto from LOTR) and you’ve got what could be a great little movie. Instead, the plot becomes a bit plodding, the writing a bit weak, and once you are an hour in you start hoping for the end of the movie. That’s never a good sign.
I liked it, I just didn’t love it.
Two balloons out of five.
