I love MT-Blacklist, but sometimes it just doesn’t work fast enough with the updates to eliminate all spam – but I appreciate Jay Allen’s hard work and think MT-Blacklist is pure genius. But to supplement that plug-in, I’ve also opted to use Rayne’s MT-Close plug-in, which allowed me to change the comments on ALL of my posts on ALL FOUR BLOGS I maintain – from now on, if a post is older than 31 days it will automatically be closed for commenting. Since spammers tend to appreciate the older posts when attacking websites, this will severely limit what they can find to attack on our sites.
It only did back to June 2003 because from April 2002 to June 2003 I used Greymatter, so I’ll have to see if there’s a way to close those comments quickly as well. But at least June 2003-September 2004 have been closed for good.
It was SUPEREASY to install and use, too, which I appreciated.
I was thinking we’d make the comment section password protected in some way to thwart the spammers. If you want to receive a password, you’d need to email us. What do you think?
No, that would be a pain – but they do have scripts that make you type in a word of its choosing before you can click submit – I’ll look into it.
Brilliant! (<– been watching a lot of British flix lately) I’ll be sure to give it a whirl. Thanks for the info.
