Theater: David Sedaris

On Saturday afternoon, Denis and I went to go see David Sedaris do a reading in Charlotte. I got the tickets for Denis (who is a big Sedaris fan) for our anniversary. We installed the babysitter and headed off (a bit late), getting to the theater at about 1:58 p.m. (the show was billed as starting at 2 p.m.).

I admit I’ve never read or heard David Sedaris. I certainly love his sister, Amy Sedaris, who is hilarious. Well, I’m now a fan of David Sedaris as well. He spent an hour and a half reading his work and it was really funny and insightful. The part that cracked me up the most was his book recommendation. Supposedly on all his book tours he recommends one book to his audience. This year’s book is The Zombie Survival Guide. Sedaris said that what made this book so funny is that the author is totally BEING SERIOUS about how to survive a zombie attack.

After the show we walked around downtown Charlotte for a while and then popped into a restaurant where we gorged ourselves on food and drink before heading back home. It was a nice afternoon out without the kids, and a reminder to us that we need to do it more often.

Oh my gosh! I know how you are a huge fan of the office and a
fan of Jim from the office. I read on the MSN gossip page the Jim
was at this same show in Charlotte with Renne Zelleweger! You
    could have met Jim!

Tracy – what’s funny is that I wondered if John Krasinski or George Clooney might be there (they are filming a movie in Charlotte). But we went to the Saturday matinee, and I dno’t see either of them doing a matinee versus a nighttime performance. And I’m sure that people would have been all “that’s Rene Zelleweger!” if she had been there at our particular showing.
