Book: The Memory Keeper’s Daughter

The Memory Keeper\'s DaughterThis is a book club pick for the book club in my new neighborhood. Why do book club books have to be generally depressing? The whole book was largely very morose and sad – a feeling of quiet desperation between one family. If I ever get to pick a book for the book club I’m going to pick one of the funniest books on the planet: Owen Meany. Those women will LOVE IT.

Anyway, so “Memory Keeper’s” was a good read – it was well written and in that regard it was enjoyable. Too many times a book that is NOT well written is also really boring.

The real pain is that the bookclub doesn’t meet for another 2-3 weeks, which means I will promptly forget everything about this book and by the time the book club meets I’ll be completely useless by way of any discussion.

Although I may not have to worry about that because I’ve heard through the grapevine that a lot of “book clubs” are actually “let’s get together and gossip and drink” clubs, a la that reality tv show about a ladies’ book club in California. Don’t know how true that is, but we’ll see.

In any case, if you don’t mind depressing books with the guise of a “sort of happy ending c’mon we can’t please everyone” kind of thing, then this book is probably for you.

Jeez, Melanie Lynne Hauser must hate my book reviews because there is little by way of “review” in them. She probably prays I never review her books (although I plan to, thankyouverymuch).
