A couple nights ago I asked Denis what he thought the greatest rock song of all time was and he said, “Well, it would have to be a Beatles song, obviously,” to which I responded, “No, I don’t think so – I think it’s The Who’s ‘Baba O’Riley’.”
I just did a search around the web and the overwhelming choice is usually Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’, but I disagree with that choice to.
‘Baba O’Riley’ is a song I could listen to over and over. and over. and over. and over again. And it would NEVER get old for me. When it comes on in the car (which is often since I have it saved on my mp3 player) I crank it up to 11 and rock out.
So what’s your choice for Greatest Rock Song of All Time?
I did say, “Who’s Next,” the album from which Baba O’Riley comes from, is definitely in my top ten, probably top five of all time. Billy Joel’s “The Stranger” is on that list, The Beatles, “Revolver” is definitely on it. Probably “Sgt Pepper’s”, and maybe a few other Beatles albums. I’d have to think about the rest of my album list.
As for top songs go, Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May,” and Carol King’s “It’s Too Late”. Not exactly rock anthems, but great songs.
Ted would have to go with “Purple Haze” by Jimi Hendrix
Anne says “Oye Como Va” by Carlos Santana
I’d have to go with the establishment and agree with “Stairway to Heaven”. But Denis notes some of my other choices too. Tough question!
Don’t Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. Because you just can’t get enough cowbell.
